What Is a Senior Railcard?

The Senior Railcard provides a 1/3 discount on most UK rail fares for those aged 60 and above.

Senior Railcards are only £30 for one year and £70 for three years. Both cards have no restrictions during usage, but a three-year Railcard is £20 cheaper than three one-year Railcards. What's more, the average annual savings can be up to £86.*

The Senior Railcard is ideal for those retired who travel frequently, such as those who love to adventure, see family often, or have regular appointments.

This Railcard provides discounts on Anytime, Off-Peak and Advance tickets and more. You can travel from any time on weekends, bank holidays, and weekdays except between two stations inside London and the South East area during morning peak time.

The Senior Railcard offers a 1/3 discount on most Off-Peak rail fares for travel across the UK. Below, you will find information on tickets, time restrictions, and the cheapest fares available. Take a look to plan your travel accordingly:

    Digital Railcards are stored on your smartphone or tablet, meaning there’s no need to carry the physical card around with you. They can be stored on up to two devices and used quicker than plastic Railcards as they do not need to be sent in the post. The Railcard is available offline for a period of up to 72 hours. However, if you don’t have any battery life, or have forgotten your device, you could be asked to buy a single ticket for your journey, or be issued with a Penalty Fare.
  • What do I need to buy a Senior Railcard?

    Buying on the Trip.com app is easy, all you need is as follows:

    Unfortunately, there is no specific "couple" discount for Senior Railcards. Each person will need to purchase their own Senior Railcard to receive the discount.
  • How old do I need to be to apply for a Senior Railcard?

    You can purchase the Senior Railcard on Trip.com app during the last two weeks before turning 60, for convenient use after your birthday. However, please note that you cannot buy it at the station, and you will need to provide a valid form of ID to prove your age. Once you have purchased the Railcard, you will not need to provide ID when renewing it online in the future.
  • How much do you save with a Senior Railcard?

    A Senior Railcard saves on average £86 per year**, or £5.26 per journey. What’s more, a three-year Railcard is £20 cheaper than three one-year Railcards.

    Both the UK rail network and London Underground lines accept this Railcard, offering a 1/3 discount. After adding your Railcard to an Oyster card, you can get 1/3 off Off-Peak rail travel around London.
  • What’s the earliest I can use my Senior Railcard?

  • Can I use my Senior Railcard on Eurostar services?

    No, you cannot use the Senior Railcard on Eurostar services.

  • Can I get a discount on Season tickets with a Senior Railcard?

    No. Season tickets, including Travelcard Season tickets, cannot get a discount with a Senior Railcard.

  • How do you renew a Senior Railcard?

    If you’ve already bought a Railcard with us, the fastest and easiest way to renew is online. You will not need to verify your ID again and the Railcard can be renewed 30 days before expiry. Simply:
